I just meant that it might be toxic to the fungus, I'm not sure it was just an idea. It definetely ok for ants
I keep over 20 species of ant, inc. Acromyrmex Octospinosus

Steve, what size colony did you get?
Can you see the fungus-is it there grey/ black patches on top?

Small colonies don't cut everyday, can be worrying for the new keeper. If there is dark stuff on top of fungus I wouldn't worry.
Is that condensation on top of that tub?

Conditions sound good Steve, tub you put in is quite big lol.
Give it a few days, put in some spotted Laural and rose leaves (which they seem to love) If they cut a few bits I wouldn't worry. If after 2-3 days they have not cut I'd be disconnecting the t-piece and seeing what's going on.
Might be all fine though.

Someone's gonna slap me for this idea... But anyway. If they are in the T piece, could you not just remove that piece and put them in one of the larger tubs. Then they have their cosy pipe, and you have slightly better access to them.

If Steve has a spare T piece he could totally do that in a few days if he feels he needs to check on them, sure he would be able to see in and check the fungus with out disturbing them to much.

Well i think you have been really patient Steve. I think by now i would have intervened by taking off the T piece and putting it in the middle of the tub, getting the ants out of the tube, putting some leaves around the T piece and then blocking off all exits until something happens. And keeping it dark.

Also heading for a slap....Beat me i deserve it :)

I think what you need here is answers. Everything could be good in the pipe or there could be a problem. I think I am with the other guys on this, time to knock the colony out of the pipe and see whats going on. Give them a choice of new home if possible, maybe a very wet soil filled container and one with slightly drier soil. Also you will find that, if you turf them out of their pipe they will reassemble the fungus somewhere else and then hopefully go into a growth spurt. Have the good leaves ready for them when you do this.
