Right, just went upstairs to find out that the temperature is 28•C with the insulation on, so I've taken it off. I'm trying a new method now. Considering that my average room temperature is 23-24•C I'm just not going to heat it with any exterior method. As for the humidity, I don't trust any of my equipment. Exoterra was made for lizards etc and I don't think they can live up to the standerd of a leaf cutter tank, they are just not accurate enough. A 1•C potential error for something that costs upwards of £8.00 is bs. I need to find a hygrometer quickly. Does anyone have any recomendations?

Why is temperature rising to 28 if you have a thermostat?

What wattage heat mat do you have mate? if the heat mat is to high a wattage you will get big fluctuations in temperature especially if you have it insulated, the heat mat will get to hot quicker that your thermostat can deal with it. where is the probe to your stat situated in the tank?
ants i keep:-
Atta cephalotes
Polyrhachis dives
Camponotus cruentatus
Camponotus ligniperdus
Camponotus barbaricus
Formica cunicularia
Messor barbarus
Lasius niger

Good point Dale, could be the case if a high power heat mat was used. I recently returned one myself after reading they shouldn't be placed underneath.

It's a 14 watt heat Matt, overnight with no heating and there is 0 condensation on the glass. They also showed no interest in the apple I gave them. They just took leaves last night.

It's not a high power Heat mat then with that wattage. Where is your thermostat probe Jack? Trying to work out how the temperature went to 28 degrees, I'm assuming the mat is on a thermostat?

The heatmat is attached to thernometer. Which didn't switch the heatmat off. It then dawned on me that it was an exoterra thermometer that said it was 28•C so I'm not sure if it was.

I really need some ideas for some thermometers and hygrometers.

So you don't have a thermostat Jack is that what you are saying?
You need a thermostat asap, you shouldn't have an uncontrolled heat source in the set up.

Thermometers don't turn of heat sources, they only tell you the temperature.

What I need is a reliable Thermometer and a Hygrometer.
