Re: Trials and prototypes
I could offer a more basic version without ventilation and reduced Perspex tubing which would reduce the price considerably. Mine gets ventilation when I fill up the outworld.

Re: Trials and prototypes
I'd only use these for fungus chanbers, are the kids just sat on top? Any securing devices?

The lids aren't the ones in the picture, two parts, smaller circle attached to a larger meaning a much more securer fit and being 5mm thick much heavier to avoid any knocks and escapes! X

Re: Trials and prototypes
Cost is no problem, looks good. At that price they are probably the lowest cost unit to use. I would definitely recommend them after some feedback re any issues that may arise.
A little uncomfortable about one or two issues.
Lack of ventillation could be a problem. Airflow under the control of the ants is a big issue for me. It is not true to say there is no ventillation. The entrance pipe coming in is one source of ventillation. It would be an enhancement I think if there was a way to allow the air to escape and allow the ants to close that off or open it up if necessary. However I have seen a few set ups that work without this facility. Whilst this is not a problem when you are using this yourself, for your own colonies, as soon as you sell this unit and something goes wrong with a customers colony, any deficiency they can point towards will be a reason to blame the failure on you. This is central to all of the work I do on site, ensuring that elements of the displays I build are complaint proof, even when there is nothing that can cause harm as a result of the feature I am working on.
I assume the cylinder is plastic and the lid is glass.
Is there a way to fix the lid on to the cylinder or does it simply sit on top?
You should advertise this in the for sale section here. This would be a good starter unit. Also can you send it through the post. If you can I think there could be a role for it and we should have a PM chat.
