Re: Reevey Acromyrmex Aquarium setup
hi guys think I may have a problem nearly all the ants are on the top of the tub and not many in the tub where I added the fungus from Andrew what do you think is going on.
temp in the tub is 25 and says 99% humidity and where they are on the lid it say 24 and 99% humidity.
they have not got a lot of fungus collected getting really worried do you think I should try a tub with nothing in it.

Your tubs are really big for such a small fungus - maybe try just placing a lunchbox container or something for now on a stand over the water ?
I keep over 20 species of ant, inc. Acromyrmex Octospinosus

They don't like it in there obviously, did you put dry peat in there? I'm going to hang my neck out and say the soil is to wet. I'd add the same amount of peat again but use bone dry peat and mix it up with moist stuff you have in there.
My acromyrmex colony had virtually dry soil after a week or two, Andrew keeps his in plastic tubs, some of which have no soil and just sit on the plastic base but both get the humidity from the humid air surrounding the tubs just like yours. You could leave the ants on the lid and feed them there and they can move if they want but only if your sure dipping condensation from the tank lid won't be a problem. ill go back in if they want. If in doubt return them again, I hate advising to mess with them so much.
See what others say.

Re: Reevey Acromyrmex Aquarium setup
Steve, how about changing your whole approach ? Your set up isn't that dis similar to how Richard has described his professor friends set up and wouldn't take much to convert. When i had Atta i used a bisque tile and a cut off top off a large lemonade bottle over turned with the top left on and no substrate, pretty much the same idea as the prof's. The Ants sealed around the bottom with some compost and all went well. Well until they got poisoned that was
But perhaps best not to meddle to much as i understand acro's don't like being disturbed to much but just a thought. Anyway best wait for the people who really know

Re: Reevey Acromyrmex Aquarium setup
hi guys morning update from the worrying night before. in the end I add an empty tub and all the ant on the lid I put in the tub so I now have 3 lots of ants in 3 different places but they don't seem to like the tub with the peat in there are ants in there but don't seem to be doing to much with the fungus that is left on the peat do you think I will lose that fungus.I have some ants on the lid of the new tub they seem busy and have ants inside the empty tub they seem to have setup home under a rose pettle and look like some privet has had a few cuts ut I don't have a lot of fungus as the don't seem to be moving it from the old tub. heres 3 picture below of where they are, so what do you think my options are ?.
But I'm a lot happier today and thanks for all help and suggestions.
This ones in the empty tub

This ones on the lid of the empty tub

This ones in the tub with the peat

May be it's the peat they're not liking. Are you sure you got it from a safe source ? If they are a happy on the lid and tending the fungus i would let them get on with it.

I agree with Andy, I'd leave them to settle for the minute if there cutting.
Can you post a pic of inside the tub with the peat if possible? and as Andy asked is the peat free of chemicals/ ferts etc
