Ok.. fantastic news.. So I was checking my ants for the 35th time today when I noticed, lying on top of the fungus.. as if the ants were laying it out to show me... the pupae of my first soldier. that's taken 7 months. She looks magnificent. I've named her Boudicca. FTW!

Sorry Reevey, I'm not sure I understood your question. I think you might be referring to the plastic lid I used floating on the surface of my aquarium water that I hoped they would use as a dump. I tried it a few times now. Basically they mostly don't use it. They climb on it and then toss the rubbish over the side of that into the water. I bought an Eheim surface skimmer to try and solve the problem but it's not really up to the job and I have to clean it out every day.

I am aware that as the colony grows the dumping will become more of an issue. My back stop solution that I'm toying with is getting another external filter and using it with a surface skimmer attachment so that it draws the water off the surface. Thing is with the ant's waste is that it floats.

The other option I have is to change the intake on my current external filter to a surface skimmer type.

I'm working on it :)

No a bad shout. The fact that ant waste floats is something I have never considered as a possibility for utilising in the waste management strategy. Some thinking materials there.
