Hi all,

I'm John from Ireland. Registered a few days ago but am only getting a chance to introduce myself now as I work weekends and nights..

I love ants and am now in a position to keep some now and have a few small colonies so far. After doing a lot of research I've decided to get myself some LCA's ! As I'm concerned space could become an issue I've rule out Atta's :( and decided to go with Acromyrmex's instead

I intend on housing them in 200mm cylinders stored in a cabinet which will be heated by heating cable.

The only real issue left to overcome now is getting them to Ireland  but hope that will be sorted soon 8-)

P.S thanks for accepting my registration, all the info here is great and has been really helpful!

Welcome.. :)

I await developments with interest... Do you mind mind me asking where you sourced you 200mm cylinders? It's just I've got an eye on expanding my capacity so I'm like a housing radar at the moment.. :)

Thanks Richard,

Antstore but there expensive! Cheaper to buy the kit with 3 of them than to buy the individually.
I have some in the post ATM from http://www.united-plastics.co.uk/displa ... 67_70.html but cant talk about there quality until they arrive. These don't have lids either! I intend on making my own

Another option I've found is http://plasticonline.co.uk/containers-3 ... h-lid.html and these do come with lids, but I haven't ordered any from here (yet.. )

Edit: Another opition http://www.displaysense.co.uk/tubular-d ... iners.html

Thanks, that's interesting. I think a few of the chaps on this forum sell equipment and it would be great, I think, if we could have a UK based supplier over take our German cousins. (Nothing against Germans of course.. it's just the postage and packaging is so expensive!!)

Hello John! you appear familiar to me :D if not I could be confusing you with some one else! Good luck with your venture! can I be nosey and ask how much the total was for the three including postage?
I recently had a traumatic post office moment regarding postage to Ireland. Some tips with the tubs would be check what they are glued together with! I assumed in the past it was sealant and they fell apart when damp, also avoid thin Acrylic, it warms and can expose gaps.

Looking forward to your posts!
regards
Sean

Hi Sean :D

Yes it was me! :D I'm getting the same problem everywhere... postage to Ireland is a killer and that’s IF they'll post it.... :( :(

€160 + €35 postage, there €60 on there own but that doesn't include the lids and vent or plug + connectors to each other...
Which works out to be about £150 so your way ahead of them price wise!!!

Thanks for the tip! I plan on resealing everything to be sure anyway as I’m sure some of them will be done cheaply..

Thanks magic, you too

When you add all those costs up it might be worth a day trip to the UK to do all your shopping! We always welcome collections! :)

Yeah it probable would!! Unfortunately I've been working six nights a week lately and that’s part of the reason I decided to treat myself! :D
