Good experiment Richard, there hard to predict. My Acromyrmex colony once thought it was good to make a small fungus under a tile in the foraging area lol.

Personally if I was wanting them to use a second chamber before they chose to I would be tempted to half the garden as accurately as possible and place both sections in new tanks so there was no odour of the original chamber, both were new and none would be favoured. That would be the best chance. But at the end of the day when they fill the first they will use the second.

External nest box successfully installed. Last job (for a good long while hopefully) is to fit a larger feeding box.

All the glassware was from Antstore. I got the heatmat and thermostat from amazon.

The nest is sat on :

I'm quite pleased with it. I've just got to hope my 2 year old doesn't pull it off onto the floor...

The pipe work is a combination of clear pipe from clearplasticpipe.co.uk and fittings from plasticpipeshop.co.uk.

To be honest I think I would have used white if I had seen them first. But I saw the grey ones and thought, they'll do...

Interesting setup, I would be tempted to keep the satellite nest tank darkened until they start building perhaps.
