That's really interesting, never knew there even was such a parasite. Have you heard it tried lemon juice to get rid if visible ones? I remember reading about someone having success with that.

Predatory mites such as Neoseiulus californicus are an effective long-term solution for eradicating parasitic mites (the kind that clings to your ants). They can be purchased online relatively cheaply. Dust mites, on the other hand, are relatively harmless as they'll help break down the waste dump. They can be problematic in extreme numbers if there is little waste for them to eat (they can start consuming ant brood when faced with starvation). The best solution at that point would be to relocate the colony and fungus to a clean setup.
