Yes, or vice versa.
Or even fungus could be manually placed inside their as well. Either way I, sure once the colony got big enough both sections would be used

So what would be the point of having a natural setup and a laboratory style. Would it not be one or the other?

Just for viewing purposes, really. So when people come they can see how atta would build their chambers in the wild, something a laboratory setup doesn't have. And when they view the laboratory side they would be able to see the fungus, something that is usually very hard to see with a soil setup. Just an idea.

What would happen in reality is that the ants would start carrying soil in to the empty plastic chambers and cover the sides with soil. You would end up with two soil filled smaller chambers and a soil filled larger chamber. Its a good effort but ultimately you have to decide, one or the other, the ants will take advantage of you if you try to do both.

Then the clinical setup then. Fill the tank with cubes, like in planet ant, and the tank will provide incubation for them :?

So you favour the clinical on over the natural look. Okay, we will go with that. So heating. We have a large outer 'tank' with a series of internal chambers. How do we heat this display?

For heating I was thinking we place the the tank 1/4 in a large heated tank. Like in the picture. The whole thing will be covered to keep heat. Inside the aquarium there could be fish and other interesting things for them to see.

I love the natural setup but it's very hard to see the fungus and what goes on inside the nest.
