Okay, heres what I ALWAYS start my training spiel with when I am talking to new keepers at a zoo or butterfly farm. I tell them that we are not looking after an Ant nest here, that is not the job. The job is to work with the ants and together we are both looking after the fungus. We bring the fertiliser (leaves etc) and provide the heat and humidity and they keep the fungus healthy and free from pests and between us the fungus thrives. And invariably, if the fungus thrives then the ants do well and we are content. So everything starts with a happy fungus garden!
