does anybody know how long it takes for a leaf to become part of the fungi garden?
it seems to happen very quickly with mine or are they just good at hiding?

Over a period of around an hour the leaves are licked clean then chewed and mixed with ant saliva and then plastered in rows along the ridges of the fungus, forming pockets as the fungus grows. Unfed fungus will turn from dark green to a dying yellow in around 10 days if new leaves are not added.
