Only know as I've had these issues mate. An initial heat source, pipe insulation, vents sound along the lines.
I'd be inclined to try a few vents on the top of the first half meter of pipe covered with mesh.
You could build it without and see how you go as its easy enough to change a bit of pipe. The ones coming out of the unit may have been more difficult I'd imagine.
See what Andrew says, probably got lots of experience of this.

Took a quick look with my microscope earlier to see a couple of new workers and an angry ant who didnt want me there.

wasnt able to see any eggs or larva but there may have been some deeper into the fungus than i could see. Im not sure if the leave i had seen cut had been added to the fungus because i couldnt see any green in the fungus :?

Brilliant photos, so does that have to be plugged into lap top to work?

Is there no dark parts on the fungus? Weird

The fungus is a lot darker with the naked eye, should it have dark bits? Yes mate the microscope does need to be plugged into the laptop. Do Attas ever cut leaves and discard them or will they always add it to the fungus, im just confused why i didnt see any green in the fungus
