Naturalesque Leaf Cutter Outworld

So this is a sort of continuation from my other post about making a naturalish formicarium design, but this will be one dedicated to a foraging outworld for them. Now this will be a lot less experimental than my formicarium idea is.

The idea is to put the nest boxes in an aquarium stand and attach them to an aquarium with vinyl tubing and yeah that's it really.

I want to set up this aquarium to be a kind of desert theme(since the ants I got my eyes on are desert ants). I did wonder though; I wanted to put succulents in the aquarium like cacti and maybe others. Would they be safe from the ants? And would the ants equally be safe from the succulents?

Are you saying you are planning a desert theme for your leaf cutting ant colony? Interesting idea.

Well Acromyrmex Versicolor ARE Desert ants so I don't think going that watery tropical route would fit since it's not really their natural habitat.

Partially true. Doesnt really matter where the colony is found, the fungus still requires near 100% humidity. At the edge of their range this can be a real challenge for them, often they are restricted around rivers and vegetation and build their colonies very deep. It seems counter intuituve to see leaf cutters in a desert environment but I get it. Nice to see pictures when its set up.

Yeah it's really just for looks to be honest.
