Colonies moving fungus into the tubes is a common thing in public displays. It normally happens after a while of being setup and is, almost invariably, an indication that something is not right in the nest. Moving fungus is a fairly big commitment and trying to relocate it is usually my indicator to go looking for a problem. It can be a simple reaction to strong lighting but more commonly it means the ants are dumping waste close to the fungus and this is rotting. Or the nest box is too wet, the excess moisture has turned brown and this is releasing ammonia which is killing the fungus. Or can be drafts, hot spots, dryness, mites etc etc. One way or another, if that happens, take the nest apart and determine the reason, its always there.
