Thanks Jamie :) Really enjoying this build but cutting that 5mm acrylic nearly gave me my third heart attack  All good fun though :)

My pulse stat arrived today but over the last few days the levels in the pod have been pretty stable about 24.5 c and between 94 - 96 RH I'm just using the heat mat on the back wall and the fan is keeping temps even through out the shelf. Also the pod is clear apart from a small patch of condensation on the front and under the line of clay balls.

I have a dilemma, of course i want to get my ants as soon as, but i have a weeks holiday in July. God i can't wait that long so what do you all do when you go away. ?????

Best thing to do is train a family member.

It's a funny one Andy, I've never left them more than 3-4 days. Branches placed in water helps them stay fresh for longer, even leaves placed in a humid box will keep them fresh for longer. I had my dad make a visit once and when I returned they where roaming free in the bedroom, out world trashed lol.
Ricco is going for a record breaking 2 weeks so we will see how that goes.

PS.your never waiting till July Andy, let's not kid ourselves on lol

My suggestion is to feed Brussel Sprouts. These will easily stay good for a week and the ants will take that long to reduce them to the size of marbles. Also if you drop the temp to 22C they will slow. Even if they feed the fungus for the first 3-4 days, there will be no damage to the nest for the remaining 3 days. I have in the past had colonies kept in this way for a week. However you will still need to get someone to check temperature and also make sure they cannot get out.

Thanks, that's reassuring. I was thinking of things like dried fruits and flaked almonds. Are sprouts available in July? i really can't remember.
