My first a leaf cutter ants. Please advise
My first a leaf cutter ants. Please advise
I brought Leaf cutter ants three days ago.
Species Acromyrmex Octopinosus and Colony scale is 10 big workers, 10~15 small workers, 1 queen and Fungus is the size of a golf ball.
I will show you the Pictures in order
When they arrived, the Fungus was all breaked, but they were all repaired in a day.
I feed rose leaves and petals. i seemed to prefer leaves to petals.
I am very interested to see the leaf cutter ant for the first time
Here are some questions.
1.I've been thinking a lot about the bottom flooring. i considered gypsum or sawdust. but i had a simple setting i'm keeping the humidity in a tissue now.
If the Colony grows bigger, i will separate the Feed tank and the Colony case, and then i will think about the bottom flooring materials again.
Please tell me the type of flooring materials and their advantages and disadvantages.
2.Recommend that the leaf ants serve many different foods? or is it better to give only favorite food?
3.How long does a Acromyrmex small workers live??
I am not good at english so there may be a wrong sentence. i hope you understand.
Thank you

Can you see now?? plz check
In my colony for a while, larva and pupa died
i guess there were not many workers to take care of them...
Compared to the numer of workers, fungus were big and rooms large.
I decided to take some of the fungus off.
And now, a new worker is being born and there are no dead larvas

Very nice pictures. Looks good. How do you keep the fungus Humid/heated?
Re: My first a leaf cutter ants. Please advise
They are staying inside a heating box with a temperature of 27-28 degrees and humidity being kept as a wet tissue.Docxx wrote:Very nice pictures. Looks good. How do you keep the fungus Humid/heated?

Hi, late reply!! Pictures are amazing! Would love to know what equip you are using.
In terms of your setup, how is it going. Growth looks great, very healthy. Have you managed to keep things going?

How is the humidity in the set up I would put small clear tube over the fungus if the humidity not right I have done with a colony that was size of yours and it grow lot and fast.
And also put some spil around it that can use make a small open in the tube and they make it how they want it.
