My Setup (Atta cephalotes)

Post by PierreE » Thu Jan 07, 2016 4:42 pm

Hello,
here I want to show you my Atta cephalotes :)

In March 2014 I went to Kalytta in Boppard and I've bought my little Atta cephalotes Colony :
I started with few workers (Fungus was golfball size):

I started with 3 tanks (Antstore Leafcutterset).
Now ,almost 2 Years later,I have 7 tanks :
1x Feedingtank (120x45x50cm)
5x 30x20x20 (Fungus and Trash)
1x30x20x5 Farm (I don't know...I want a fungus in this farm ^^ )
and almost 15 Metres Tube (50mm)
How large the colony is? I can not say! What would you value? hehe
No interest on the blackberry leaves...But I can not find privet...Only one big Hedge..But with pestizides
I would make one picture in summer with a lot of Ants ;)

Why i can put only 3 Pictures in one report?
More Pictures in the next report

Brilliant Pierre! Your colony looks like its thriving. Do you have any idea where the queen is? I'd like to do something like this in my boys bedroom in the future, sure they would love it!
Anymore pictures and information on your colonys would be appreciated, great job!

Hey,
thanks for the nice answers!!!
I appreciate it very much!

@ deansie26 : I don't know 100% where the queen is,but I think in this fungus here
atta2 (2).jpg
because here are the most workers and soldiers..But I can't say sure :)
I only saw the Queen in the first 1 Month a few times xD
I searched for a photo and i found one :)
AttaGyne.jpg
In this moment I want to keep a second Atta hehe
I really hope to see the queen again before she dies ^^
But I think as far as it will not come  :P
When I look at the active workers,it's enough for me to know that the queen is healthy :D

I think it's a good idea,too :!: :)
The boys have fun and the daddy, too xD
maybe later they will also be interested in the keeping of leafcutterants ;)

At the next days I will make some new pics and write something about the colony.
Are they any direct asks? Or generall?

Thank you very much

Best regards,
Pierre

I've got two boys so one has to be interested right?? Lol.
A video of your set up would be nice if you get the time. Have you had big prison break yet? Imagine that we be fun in your house .

Pierre shall I move this thread into the journal section as its basically a form of journal or are you going to do something else there for your Atta? Thought I'd ask before moving it :)
