mq500-1000 would be mq1000 which means up to 1000. Dont know, this formula needs developing. Depends what everyone thinks is most workable.

I think it's a great idea, definitely should be spread once finalised, you could send a copy of the formula infograph with each ant colony you supply, as well as to anyone that was interested in getting a colony. I myself have no ant knowledge but understood the main jist of the formula and I'm terrible with understanding formulas so I don't think it would be too hard for people new to this to understand and learn it.
