Holiday in Costa Rica

Post by Formica123 » Thu Oct 27, 2016 9:06 am

So I recently won a sum of money in a photo competition, and want to use it to pay for a trip with my grandad to Costa Rica to go ant hunting.
It's a long way off yet, I'm hoping to go next year in March time, mid summer in Costa Rica.
Here are my questions to whoever may know:
1. What is the best region to go to to look for ants? I'm hoping to find atta/Acromyrmex, but also any other tropical species too.
2. What is the nearest airport to that location?
Many thanks.
Marco

Well done on the money you won. Lets see the picture you won the competition with, I'd love to see it!
Cant really help you with Costa Rica though, not been there before. However if you are planning on bringing any ants home then beware of Costa Rica, they are very strict on import / export.
But good luck with your trip.

I won the money earlier in the year at the local 'nature photo competition' in a French village near me, 2 thousand euros, all the money entered went towards more wild boar habitats for 'le chasse'
hunting groups, I used an old photo of a bee I took for another photo competition before, which I also won haha, here it is

I'm just going to post them back to myself, I won the sell any of them, so I'm not really too bothered on customs for this order, £200+ on top to 'legally' import them to myself just seems a bit stupid to me.

I heard that the jungle areas of San Jose are supposed to be quite good...
